Fragile Children Program

Must be at least 18 years old. 

• Must be a family caregiver of an eligible relative who is 21 years old or younger with an underlying physical, mental, or cognitive impairment requiring skilled care. 

• Applicants must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and comprehend written instructions, medical documentation, and care-related materials essential for performing caregiver duties effectively.

• Applicants must successfully pass a Level 2 background screening as mandated by Section 400.215, Florida Statutes. This screening includes fingerprint-based checks conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to verify the absence of disqualifying offenses.

• Be employed by a licensed home health agency participating in the AMFC program. Benefits may be impacted; therefore, it is essential to verify details with Medicaid and the Department of Children and Families (DCF). 

• Complete 12 hours of in-service training annually to maintain employment. 

• Complete an approved training program consisting of at least 85 hours, including: 

• 40 hours of theoretical instruction (care, safety, mental health, legal/ethical issues).

• 20 hours of hands-on skills training (nursing tasks, patient care).

• 16 hours of supervised clinical training.

• Training on HIV/AIDS and current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
